One of the striking images I saw while I was filming Jailed for Justice last Monday was that of teachers wearing tape over their mouths. This photograph was taken inside the legislature building. Silence surrounded this young lady and I thought about how much she was saying and teaching at that moment. I never got her name-after all, her mouth was taped shut because the government told her she had to keep quiet when they changed the protest law. I wanted to thank her for being a teacher even if our state government hasn’t. One day, I think young children will be studying this day of silent protest in school. I hope it is a day when the teacher can say to all the students that they are free to share their opinions and debate in a respectful way.
If you were there, what image stood out most to you?
